QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
Hi
Newbie here. I have purchsed Metastock V10.1 End of Day and I would like to download the end of day data from QuoteCenter. However, there is only one tab for Datalink under Tools>Option, but nothing for Quotecenter.
Can anyone walk me through how to download day end data form Quotecenter please?
Many Thanks

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
hey red..... downloading eod from quotecenter itself might require the additional program component contained in the real time versions....
most eod users will use the option you mentioned, reuters datalink, for downloading eod from equis/reuters..... it's faster and also uses standard symbols......... you'll just need to set up an account with them and input your user id and password in the vendor options.....
downloading is one of those that can be difficult the first time but a brezze the second......h

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
Hey Hayseed,
Thanks for your reply. I am using quotecentre right now but I dont need Metastock real time to analyze the stock data, I do my analysis after the market closed anyway. That is why I try to fit quotecenter with metastock eod. Do you happen to know what and where I can download the component I need for downloader?
Many thanks

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
When you subscribe to Quote Center, they will give a free Datalink subscription (for downloading EOD quotes). I recommend that you contact the person who set you up with Quotecenter and explain to them your using EOD and they should give it to you.

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
Finally got my metastock pro and have it properly setup.
LH, thanks for the tips re datalink. I have also setup an account for free and use it to download day end data. However, I am only getting 130 quote per minute and it takes a long time to download. Is that speed normal?
Thanks

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
It sounds like you are downloading from QuoteCenter and not Reuters DataLink. QuoteCenter is not optimized for transferring the data in an End-of-Day type fashion like this. It does no data compression among other methods of optimizing the transfer like this.
This is the reason we give Reuters DataLink free to QuoteCenter users. Reuters DataLink was designed around End-of-Day, the data is compressed and uses FTP to transfer the information.

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
Pyradius, perhaps you can help me with something...
I currently use Pro 10.1 and have Quotecenter. I upgraded from 9.1 EOD to 10.1 EOD to current 10.1 PRO using RDL for EOD data. On a monthly basis I would update the sybol list from inside MS. Now when I try to do this the symbols I get are for Quotecenter, not RDL. How do I get the RDL symbols so I can get my EOD data from RDL each day? Thanks.

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
hey lh..... you download the self extracting exe files here..... keep in mind those will overwrite your current local lists if allowed to..... you can temporarily rename your existing metastock data folder if that would be a problem.....
your using eod, but someone using realtime versions can still download reuters symbols, except broad market and indexes, using the true quotecenter itself..... the only requirement is to not have the 'us;' prefix on each symbol......
quotecenter was slightly slower than esignal on downloads..... but i never took advantage of the free reuters deal to compare its speeds.....h

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
Actually I am running PRO version 10.1.
If I may.....
You said " someone using true quotecenter can download reuters symbols" ... where / how do I do that? I love QC because it is SO configurable, but that tends to make things harder to find.
Also, the link ou included was for 9.1, is that OK for 10.1 PRO?
Thanks for your help with this.

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
hey lh.... oooppps, my error, i now see you had mentioned pro version before.....
yes they will work for 10.1...... and either the 9.0 exe or the 9.1 should work, it just needs to be for reuters and/or esignal and not the qc exe..... qc will download eod 'csco' or 'us;csco' .... if your local data folders are in reuters or esignal's format, ie, just 'csco', you can still choose quotecenter in the vendor options and all folders will download..... ""except the broad market indicators and indices included with those , 9.0 or 9.1 exe's""..... qc has it's own set of indices and broad market indicators, just include those folders also in your qc download if you use them.....
once that download is through, switch to reuters data link and download the indices in the reuters/esignal format.... the broad market indicators are a second stand alone package, if you subscribe to that download those also.....
it might sound cumbersome but it's not.....
a faster method would be to use the historical data cd from a 9.0 version..... that cd will load all the folders along with some out of date data.... but your first download will bring it up to date.....h

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
Me again......
Got the 9.1 version for RDL and eSignal, however, it only created a file for 9.1, not for 10.1, tried renaming it and it appears that the file structure is different as it said the dat afile was corrupt. Any thoughts?
My local data structure was from the data disk I got with 9.1 EOD when I upgraded to it.... Installing again from the CD will not get the symbols for new or changed items, thats why IO trying to get this to work.
When you say QC download, what is that? I have just been using "The Downloader" ever since I got MS back a couple years ago, to get my EOD data. I have to admit, I only have had QC for about 4 months so I am just a noob
Thanks LH

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
hey lh..... let me start over..... after reading all your prior posts and their associated threads it's now clear i had completlty missunderstood your goal and miss lead you.....
first qc, the term quotecenter has 2 seperate meanings with equis.... in v 9 there is a smaller app in the downloader called qcenter or quotecenter.... when you eod downloaded, the smaller quotecenter app starts and is commonly seen on the lower task bar along with the popup box showing its progress......
prior to v 9.1 equis/reuters/metastock did not have it's own realtime data feed..... v 9.1 introduced their realtime data feed ..... why the heck they chose to name it QuoteCenter is beyond me, but it's their program and they can name it as they like.....
so as it stands now , esignal users use the downloaders quotecenter to download from esignal and quotecenter users use downloaders quotecenter to download from quotecenter..... is it just me, or should we kick someone in the butt ...... when a term that was previously introduced with one meaning is later reintroduced with a far different meaning only confusion can result.....
now for the exe..... no, i miss lead you.... it will not work as you would like..... my thoughts were to use the exe to create a new MetaStock Data folder with reuters/esignal format symbols, ie minus the country prefix which quotecenter uses...... once that metastock data folder is created , any vendor can be used....
somewhere i've posted the entire v9 metastock data folders sym files along with speciality syms like all the etf's, bear funds, certain etf components and such..... minus the data of course.... but even that would not suffice for you cause it appears your wanting to keep the symbols current..... for that you will need the version 9 or eariler downloader......
brandon had suggested using versions 8 downloader here , and he should know best..... but version 9 worked for me......h

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
Hmm, you are right. I double check today and I was indeed downloading from quotecenter for EOD data even I have also set up my datalink account. Is there a way for me to tell the computer to download from datalink instead of quotecenter?
Thanks

Sorry for the delay. Unfortunately there can only be one symbol database for each "DownLoader" folder. The problem with QuoteCenter is that it's symbols are very specific and are not compatible with Reuters DataLink.
The only way to work around this limitation is to send you a copy of The DownLoader (For Reuters DataLink) to install into its own folder. You can use this version of The DownLoader to create Reuters DataLink securities. Either version of the DownLoader can collect from Reuters DataLink, but you cannot create the securities using The DownLoader that comes with MetaStock Pro for QuoteCenter. If you would like this stand-alone DownLoader for Reuters DataLink, give our support a call and we can get this out to you. Just remember to change the folder path during installation (i.e. C:\Program Files\EquisEoD).

Are the symbols appropriate for Reuters DataLink (i.e. IBM instead of us;IBM)? If so, when you go to Tools-->Download Prices and click Ok, you can select the Reuters DataLink tab instead of the QuoteCenter tab to change who you are collecting data from.

I am beginning to see some light at the tunnel so please bear with me for a second:
I check my MetaStock Data Folder and the symbols are with the us; prefix. So that is to say they are QuoteCenter symbol and the EOD download will only be done through QuoteCentre.
In order to use Datalink to download EOD data, I have to delete the symbol prefix by replacing the symbol list with the data folder listed here http://www.equis.com/customer/support/download/symbols.aspx by downloading the file and let it extract into the downloader program.
Now before I done something foolish and cannot go back. What is the drawback for keeping all symbols without the prefix? Will it affect my real-time quote?
If Equis is listening......Why they have to do this to us? One reason I use quotecentre is because I believe it will have better intergration with MetaStock but in fact it is so complicated.
Anyway, thanks Pyradius for your help.

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
It is a bit confusing, and I apologize for that. If you installed an End-of-Day symbol database from the link you mentioned, you would have replaced the QuoteCenter symbol database. Performing Tools-->Update Symbol Database would put the original QuoteCenter symbol database back in place.
What you may want to do is use this Reuters DataLink symbol database to create your securities in the DownLoader, then switch back to the QuoteCenter symbol database to access your live data. Once the Reuters DataLink symbols are created, you can use The DownLoader to collect these symbols, even if the symbol database is changed back to the QuoteCenter version.
Technically QuoteCenter can recognize common US stock symbols using the Reuters DataLink symbol database because it assumes us; (This is an option inside QuoteCenter that defaults to us;) so if you try to open IBM (instead of us;IBM) inside MetaStock, it should work just fine. Non-common US Stocks, Indices, European/Asian Stocks, Futures will not work with the Reuters DataLink symbol database, however.
A more permanent solution is to send you a copy of The DownLoader for Reuters DataLink and have you install this to its own folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\EquisEoD). You can then use this EoD DownLoader to create Reuters DataLink securities without impacting the QuoteCenter symbol database.

Re: QuoteCenter data with Metastock EoD
Hi Pyradius,
I have downloaded and updated the symbol list with the link. However, when I open the downloader and choose "tools" > "download files" > "select securities" dialogue box, I cannot locate any securities that I can add on to the list. I have tried selecting under c: program files > equis > downloader; and c : metastock data and I cannot choose any securities.
When I open c: program files > equis > downloader folder, I can find the bulletinboard.sys, commonindices.sys folder indeed.
I really feel like an idiot here and your patience and your help are very much appreciated. :)
