Automated quote update and signal scan?

I posted the following message in the Metastock forum and did not get any reply, so is there anyone could comment here?

Automated quote update and signal scan?

I have used an old version of Metastock and I am considering buying the current version of Metastock EOD package. I am not sure if the current version of Metastock could meet my need.

I have my own EOD data source and wrote Java programs to automatically retrieve the prices via Internet everyday after the markets close. I wonder if Metastock has documented functions and methods I could use to update the price database for each security and index programmatically instead of using the Downloader, or the Downloader has functions, programs, or macros that I could use for this purpose.

I also want to setup scheduled systematic testing of my signals on all securities in the database and print a report or send a email to my own mail box on securities that has a buy, sell or other alert signals.

I don't mind to write programs and macros, preferably Java programs.

Could anyone tell me if the current version of Metastock provide enough API and documentation to allow me to do what I am planning to do?

    Thanks.

    J.

The DownLoader can be set to automatically retrieve data from a built-in data provider such as Reuters Datalink, but not any other.
I'm not as familiar with MetaStock anymore. I don't believe there is a way to have it automatically start a System Test.

If you leave a chart open and it gets new data from the DownLoader (again, this only works with a built-in data provider. Nothing else can force the MetaStock chart to refresh, you'd have to click refresh manually) and you have an Expert Analysis or a Trendline, etc., they will update automatically.

You can set MetaStock to email or SMS you when an alert is triggered from an open chart.

Thursday was a holiday, not sure how many people are visiting the forum this week. Answers may take longer. You can always contact
Equis support via phone or email with technical questions if they don't get answered here. Then it's also nice if you come back and put the answer you get, just in case someone else had or will have the same question.
