    Switching to Metastock FX

Hi everyone, I currently use MetaTrader 4 and am considering switching to Metastock FX. The main reason for this switch is I would like something that allows me to set the trailing stop by some parameters, such as the SAR or MA(20) and then send exit orders out automatically when price crosses this level.

Does Metastock FX support this? If yes, with what brokers?

This another question may seem stupid because I'm just new to Metastock: is QuoteCenter the only real time feed for Metastock FX? With what brokers does Metastock FX allow to place orders directly (based on its signals as above or manually)?

    Your help is much appreciated!

    Re: Switching to Metastock FX

hey padme.....  had  metastock fx  when it first came out but back then forex did not interest me....  so i did not look at it very close..... from what i remember qc was the only data vendor and it did not interface with any sort of broker, of course  that may have changed....   orders would have to be input manually .....

you might be able to use a third party apt to auto trade  signals derived from metafx.....

unless i'm mistaken,  we should be able to code trailing stops using psar and moving averages in mq4.....h

    Re: Switching to Metastock FX

Hi hayseed, thanks for your answer. Yes I just found out MQL 4, however as someone said in this forum, Metastock FL is unique of its type. I used to get along quite well with MFL trading stocks (creating explorations and so on...)

By the way, your "forex did not interest me..." interests me -:). Actually I am considering switching from stock to fx trading. Just wonder why you choose the other way around? I know fx trading involves significant risk of loss compared to stock trading, but say you consistently apply stop loss rules, then could you share what draws you back?

The thing that disturbs me most in fx is the time of trade, i.e unlike stock trading where I can peacefully sit and analyse end-of-day data, with fx it seems I will need to create a lot of sound alerts which may ring when I'm deep in my sleep. Not sure if this style of activity would suit me, anyway, I have not yet started fx trading yet.

If you could share your reasons other than mine above for forgeting fx, I would be much appreciated. Maybe I should think over it again?

    Cheers

    Re: Switching to Metastock FX

hey padme..... back then forex did not interest me..... today i'm consumed by it, or at least consumed in writing ea's and indicators.....

actually i can make, or loose, far far more in stock and index trading..... and the risk of loss via forex is no concern , like any active option trader i'm accustomed to huge losses.....

the prime attraction of forex for me today is the hands free computerized trading aspect of it...... i'm often  the weak link in the trading loop and mq4  helps minimize my interference .......h

    Re: Switching to Metastock FX

Hi hayseed, so glad to hear that... Do you recommend any website where I can ask some simple stupid questions about coding in mq4? The mql4.com seems active among programming gurus only, I tried posting my newbie concerns there and received not satisfactory replies.

    cheers

btw, thanks for the good news of your active fx participartion

    Re: Switching to Metastock FX

hey padme..... ordinarily i'd recommend  ibfx but their forum has been down for quite some time now and i have a feeling it might not be resumed.....

you might try fxfisherman and forexfactory..... of those 2 , fxfisherman might be more receptive..... forextsd is another one..... moneytec and stratgeybuilderfx also.... some forums are slanted towards   advanced coding, like mql4.com ..... those guys are kings in the field and tend to respond to high end code questions......

on most all sites on the net reguarding finance, stocks, forex and such, hayseed will always be me..... i tend to answer any question that i see on any forum,   that i can answer........ holler anytime......h
