Unable to connect to Quote Center

    Hi,

I have recently purchased QuoteCenter and now i am unable to connect the software.
After I enter my id and password and click on CONNECT,
It shows a message - "All connection attempts have failed..."

When i had a talk with the technical support they asked me to enable port 14000....I did that but that did not solve the issue....
    Looking forward for some help...

Re: Unable to connect to Quote Center

Something is definitely still blocking the connection, whether it's on the Port level or on the Application level.  Without looking more specifically into what security software/hardware (router) that you have on your system, I cannot say where it is being blocked.

Most home PC's are using Application level security, though certainly hardware such as routers can block Ports as well.  The things that need unrestricted (bi-directional) access in order to connect are:

    Port:

    14000

    MetaStock:

    EQDATSRV.EXE

    MSWIN.EXE

    QuoteCenter:

    BFDAEMON.EXE

    RBWS.EXE

Re: Unable to connect to Quote Center

    Hi,

I have tried everything possible to get the thing unblocked. On the network I have a Juniper Firewall and in that I have opened the port 14000 on both the sides - TRUST to UNTRUST and UNTRUST to TRUST.

In the above mentioned firewall , only the ports needs to be opened and there is nothing to do with the Executable files. As you said that the applications - BFDaemon.EXE and RBWS.EXE are being blocked by the firewall, i dont think that could be the possible because the Firewall only blocks ports and in order for a program to run the ports need to be opened, it doesn not block exe files.

I even tried to ping the address - advanced.bridge.com [192.165.219.36] but i has been repeatedly showing a message  - "Request Timed Out"....

Telnet-ing to the address 192.165.219.36:14000 is also not working, ports are opened but the address is not responding to the repeated pings...

I am having a bad time with the whole application and the technical support on the web site told me the same thing yesterday but after all these days...I am not able to get the thing running....
What other reason could be possible for the application being blocked?

    Please help...
    Regards,
    Sam

The results of the ping test are normal; you cannot ping the address.  However, the results of the telnet command are not normal, and basically are telling you that the port 14000 is still blocked somewhere on the network.  That type of firewall is typically used in an office environment.  Are you using this on a home PC or in a work/office location?

I understand you're having a bad time with this, but there is only so much we can do to advise someone on networking security, especially remotely.  Just to give you an idea of similar issues we've dealt with.  We've had one helpdesk person keep telling us that the port was open (They had to escalate it higher up in their IT department) yet it took ~10 phone calls before someone higher up truly freed up port 14000 on all levels and the client was able to get connected.  Just be aware that there is certainly not much we can do in a case like this, other than advise that the port needs to be 100% open on all security levels, and when this is finally done, you will be able to connect.

Re: Unable to connect to Quote Center

What was the exact message you received when you attempted to Telnet?  Did you type it in without the colon? i.e.:

    telnet 192.165.219.36 14000

Have you tried connecting in Safe Mode w/Networking Support?
