This will be a public area containing questions and concerns about the forum. If you find threads or posts with faulty formatting please list the address here. There are many potential problems, but the majority of these have hopefully been worked out. e.g., size, color, bold, italics, underline, lists, quotes, codes, etc. Look it all over and report inconsistencies here.

UPDATE: August 3, 2006

There are multiple problems being reported... and verified. This is expected. Please remember that Rome wasn't built in a day. Most of these problems are easy to fix, but some will require time to sort out- perhaps days or weeks.

For the next several months we will be adjusting to the new layout and format of the CS platform. Together, we will figure out what we like and what we don't. I will try to implement the features that we need... you can count on that.

I don't take any of the feedback comments personally, so please just tell it like it is. I've already received one "I hate it!" email. I appreciate it. Really, everyone is not out there thinking how wonderful this is. I know that. It is a big change for us all. CS wasn't even on my list of choices for a new platform. But, in the real world, we got this software and now we have to learn how to best utilize and tweak and arrange it for our needs. I am very grateful for that. There are a lot of people willing to help us out. We just need to keep the feedback coming in and be as specific as possible when describing problems. Deep down, I think that CS will work out just fine. Understand that it is just a baby when compared to some of the other commercial solutions. As with all things, we have to be patient and wait for fruition. I sincerely hope that impatience doesn't negatively impact our previous level of membership participation.

There are so many things on my to-do list right now, but while we're still in the Inaugural period, I want to publicly thank all of the members of the Forum Design Team. Each of you received so many emails from me saying 'look at this and tell me what you think' but never once complained. I really appreciate it. If it helps, I have close to a thousand emails regarding the design of the new forum. More than 500 are from one member alone.

Anyway, you all did great and I wanted to say how much I appreciate your assistance.

BTW, you were appointed for a 4 year term. Did I forget to mention that?!

The source code that generated this unhandled exception can only be shown when compiled in debug mode. To enable this, please follow one of the below steps, then request the URL:

1. Add a "Debug=true" directive at the top of the file that generated the error. Example:

  <%@ Page Language="C#" Debug="true" %>

or:

2) Add the following section to the configuration file of your application:

<configuration>
   <system.web>
       <compilation debug="true"/>
   </system.web>
</configuration>

Note that this second technique will cause all files within a given application to be compiled in debug mode. The first technique will cause only that particular file to be compiled in debug mode.

Important: Running applications in debug mode does incur a memory/performance overhead. You should make sure that an application has debugging disabled before deploying into production scenario.

Stack Trace:

1. The backspace & delete keys often don't work.

2.  The Arrow & PgUp/PgDn keys don't work.

3. There's no easy way to post code.

4.  There doesn't seem to be a way to attach a chart/graphics.

5. The RSS doesn't work with a Yahoo home page -- Date order is all mixed up, you never know if you're seeing new or old messages. Half the time the subject/title doesn't show up.

6. Also, the slowness is abysmal, and I'm on fast DSL.

I'd trade the three dozen "smiley" face feature for any one of these being fixed...

Well, you don't have a choice if you want to use this search function. Avoiding this just for a few of days will result in 100's of unread posts - try to find something specific there...

Next, I reply to 5 posts: approx 500 KB to reply to and re-load each post (no preview): 2.5MB total.

Total download for session: 11 MB.

The point?

1) Not everyone has broadband access - I expect our dialup subscribers will eventually give up on our forum;

2) Multiply the above bandwidth used by up to 5000 forum users, and the Equis server just will not be able to cope with the Terabyte bandwidth required.

Add the lack of posting functions (text format, code, URL, IMG functions), and I would not even qualify this forum platform for Beta testing.

This poorly executed and bloated excuse for a forum platform should go asap, before our community gives up on it and goes elsewhere.

jose   |:-(

Enable email by default

Is there any way to "enable email subscription" by default?

How to format your formula-containing posts

I used the bold and underline buttons to format "Code:".
Or you can do <b><u>Code:</u></b> in html mode (that tab is at the bottom of the "Post a New Message" or edit windows).

I then used the indent right button on the toolbar to format the code.

However, in html mode, much better formatting is possible, see the example below.

Code:

Max(H, Ref(C,-1));

Min(H, Ref(C,-1));

Second example done in HTML mode; however, average user won't be able to do this well.

Code:

Max(H, Ref(C,-1));

Max(H, Ref(C,-1));

The following example was done in HTML mode too, using the following markup:

<BLOCKQUOTE>

<DIV><STRONG>Code:</STRONG></DIV>
<DIV>Insert your code here </DIV>

</BLOCKQUOTE>

Code:

Insert your code here

Missing Links

How can I view the links in this post: http://forum.equis.com/forums/post/16327.aspx

1. Delete old RSS (they were still showing up as of this AM).

2. Delete new RSS, then re-add.

3. Delete cookies and clear cache, both with IE and Privacy Keeper.

4. Reboot, chkdsk & defrag. (FYI: WinXP, IE 6, auto-updated.)

5.  Two (2) repeats of items 2 thru 4.

No change; problems are both intermittent and not consistent:

1. Section content doesn't display (no new items).

2.  Section title doesn't display.

3. Section COMPLETELY MISSING from the RSS section.

4. New content is not shown; only "week ago" stuff.

In all cases, one Equis RSS section may work, while another doesn't. Also, they may all work, or none. There are NO PROBLEMS with other RSS sections (non-Equis).

All sections showed up once this AM. I changed the parameters to display the last 20 items from any time period, and ALL the Equis RSS sections disappeared.
