    Using System tester with Forex

    I'm stumped.

    I have MS Pro v10.

I use it to chart forex. I have a very simple system I wish to test.

    BUY=

    MACD()-Mov(MACD(),9,E)<0 AND Ref(MACD()-Mov(MACD(),9,E),1) >0

OK - so I place this in the tester, and place an OPT for 1 to 50 for the Profit.

I then start a new test with the yen hourly.

I have 250 periods. I do not select points only. I say I have $2000 to start and 50%. save the last 5  results. I then place comission @ 4.  I set no interest at all.

I then do the test and there is only 1 trade. Yet the expert says more.

So I try points only. It doesn't like that either.

How do you set it up for the YEN - we're dealing with PIPs and not $. It doesn't seem to understand that.

Make sure to use decimal point values for your stops.  You don't really convert the numbers to actual "pips" until you get the final result.  I am not sure the actual decimal point shifting unfortunately but I am guessing you probably have that info.  What is probably happening is you are getting into the first trade and never hitting the profit target so you never are able to sell the first position.

Ok , I'll admit I'm a bit slow at times.

So, with the USD/YEN it's traded at the .01 level.

So what do I place in the Account info? 10,0000 for one mini lot with 100% usage?

And then in the comissions area, do I use .04 for 4 pips for the buy/sell?

    I need a walk through I guess.

Correct on the commissions.  Personally I recommend using a "Points Only Test".  When you get the final "point" value, you can convert it to pips (shifting the decimal point) and multiply the lot value into your pips to get how much you would have actually made.

Ok - so If I use the points only test, I can still use the .04 for the 4 pip spread?

And when you say shift decimal and multiply... Lets say I trade 1 mini lot - how would i convert?

    (sorry to sound so dense)
