Hi Pyradius,Thanks for your response once again. Well, I have my MS 10 EOD running perfectly in a virtual environment now. Activation definitely didn't write directly to the MBR and it seems to have worked perfectly (time will tell). FYI: Parallels is certainly not a dual-boot environment - take a look at ...

The License Manager software is not actually developed by Equis, but it is the software we've chosen to incorporate into MetaStock. If Nalpeiron changes how they perform product activation and we update MetaStock with this hypothetical build it's possible there could be some change in this regard, but I do not know enough on the technical ...

No this is definitively not a Microsoft thing, but a license restriction of Metastock 10 that isn't mentioned anywhere. Thus, just don't buy Metastock 10 if you're willing to execute it in a virtual machine!!!I would have been a new user of Metastock and was about to evaluate it. But it doesn't work in my environment ... if somebody knows a way to ...

I had to try it on Windoz VMware, I got the same error. That is new to 10, because 9.1 worked well. I couldn't imagine trying it on a Mac, I could never get the CPU under 100% with Virtual PC.I know Microsoft has said that certain versions of Vista won't run in a virtual envirnment. I see a pattern, must be something to do with the initials MS.....

Pyradius:The activation software requires the ability to write to the hard drive in a particular way, that cannot be done through a virtual environment. There are no plans to remove this activation software from MetaStock, so if this is a deciding point for you (and falls within the 30 day return policy) you should ...

Hi Pyradius,Thanks for your prompt response. Fair enough that there are no plans to remove the activation software; perhaps there should be plans to make the activation software work correctly in a virtual environment? :) But I digress. EDIT: Received my licence key, thought I'd try activating the software under XP running in Parallels. ...

Another alternative is my favorite app VMWare. You can format your entire hard drive fully NTFS with your main OS {XP or whatever}. When you use VMWare, or to a lesser extent VirtualPC you can have a virtual machine on your host machine. =D> The virtual machine's harddrive is a file on your host machines harddrive. Your virtual machine uses ...

Jose,
[quote user=''hard drive'' is actual a file on the physical host machines physical hard drive. No matter what vitual host you load - the ''hard drive'' will be a file on your physical machine, Linux, Windows, whatever. These files can be huge depending on how big of ''hard drive'' you allocate to your virtual machine.
When you create a new ...

Oh greeeaaattttt!!!!!
Yes, just bought a new Macbook (since they are the laptops I like to use) and got VMWare just so I could run Metastock instead of sitting in a dark little room all day....
Guess I will try Parallels for this

I use MS 9 EOD on VMWare with an XP guest OS. It runs great, but VMWare is on a Windows XP box. It also runs great with the VMWare player on linux {FC7} with the VMWare files on a gigabit network share. I did try 10 on a virtual box and it didn't work. I tried Virtual PC on my iMac {not intel chip} with an XP guest OS and the performance of the ...

Hi George,In MetaStock version 10 and above Equis started to use a new software licensing system from Nelpeiron called NLS.Unfortunately that licensing scheme contains code to stop people running software in a VMWare virtual machine. This is an optional feature that can be turned on or off by Equis (in probably the next version of MetaStock). ...
-
In theory this should still work as long as there is an accessible primary hard drive still on the PC that is using the Ramdisk setup, though I am sure sure we can ''officially'' support running it this way.
-
Perhaps Equis could consider upgrading to Nalpeiron Licensing Service v5.It has the added advantage that VMWare blocking can be stopped.http://www.nalpeiron.com/products/v5_new_features.aspNLS is the third party activation method used by Equis. In addition, the following text from their site ...

Hey,haven't run it on a Mac; but have run it under XP under Parallels (MS 10 EOD) on AMD hardware. It will not work under VMWare on the same hardware at present (there appears to be deliberate detection code to prevent execution). My Parallels isn't using the AMD virtualization CPU extensions; so I'd guess that it will work fine on a Mac under ...

Ok, here's my whacked-out thoughts of the day:- How come MetaStock, after all these years, still won't let us assign properties such as line style and color to charts within the programming language?- How come MetaStock, after all these years, still can't effectively use my 4-screen multimonitor setup to open and spread out windows - confining all ...

I saw last year a user has posted the problem of cannot run MS10 under VMware, is the same issue not fixed yet?
-
That's my preliminary conclusion as well; haven't figured out a better way but haven't had enough time to really dig into the problem. A quick look at VMware's website shows a number of high-end options; do they offer a ''home game'' version for simple implementations?

''What do you think about this strategy?''I think I'm happy I decided to stay with version 9.1.

vaughn:VMWare supports all Windows {I have a DOS virtual machine}, Lindows, Linux, ...
VM, can VMWare (installed on a NTFS partition) support DOS?
If it can, you've just saved me a heck of a lot of grief. :)

Hi namee,Welcome to the Forum.I'd start here : http://forum.equis.com/search/SearchResults.aspx?q=vmware and follow this up with a direct email to Equis support IF your question isn't answered...wabbit

As long as you don't upgrade to 10.x, you can use www.vmware.com, but you'll have to install the OS multiple times. Basically, you're running multiple PCs-within-a-PC (virtual machines).

Apologies for the long first post. Well, just bought MS 10 EOD after consulting with an online sales guy. I only run Windows XP as a guest under VMWare; I don't currently have spare hardware to dedicate to it. So imagine my surprise when my $500 product installs fine; but flatly states ''will not run under VMWare'' when I attempt to launch ...

This is bad news for people who have a Linux or MacOS host and run Windows in a virtual machine. Installation of metastock runs smooth but as soon as you try to execute the program a message with this text appears: ''This product will not work in a VMWare environment''. Thus, a check is performed if the program runs in a virtual machine and ...

Thanks, VM.
I'm forever stuck with some legacy DOS apps, and would love to try Linux - VMWare looks like something worth spending some learning-curve time on.

Hi,
I'm running VMWare on my Mac 10.5.5 and for some reason Metastock 10.1 does not run on VMWare. Can anyone help me in getting Metastock 10.1 to run on VMWare. It works with Bootcamp but would rather use VMWare.
Thanks

Hi, everyone.I am new in the stock / Ta scene. I an ran into a problem that I could not find any solution to. Running Metastock in VMware. I fixed the problem, so If anyone needs the ''fix'' please read my post.http://thinkninja.com/archives/44November 19 - Blog is updated.Thanks,Markus.

It's my understanding that MS 10 licensing system precludes it from running on an iMac VM Ware virtual machine.
Has anybody had any luck running MS 9 on a Windows XP IMac VM Ware virtual machine?

Hi Everyone,This is my first post to the MS Forums, but I've been an MS user since MS8.I'm experiencing a problem that's pretty frustrating, though I can't say I didn't ask for it. I'm trying to emulate MS11End-of-Day using a Mac Pro running the Snow Leopard OS (Mac), using VMWare Fusion 3 as the emulator. Much to my chagrin, it ...

Hello everybody,
Sorry to bring up old topic back. I really need to know, does the newest version of MS support virtual envirnment. My company going to migrate whole system under vmware view, that means all the machine that user will use will be a virtual desktop. And my company is planning to purchase multiple MS soon.
So, if it doesn't support

I am about to buy a Mac soon and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with metastock running on macs either using bootcamp, parallels or vmware? I would just like to know if there are any compatibility isssues and which way works best. Thanks in advance.
